  I've had experience being denied the rights to a book.
  
  I got most of my information about doing this from the Writer's Guild of America www.wga.org

  I've been involved vicariously - If the wga site and an internet search doesn't return what you want - I can try to answer something specific.
  
  Like most things it can range from a simple 1 dollar option to a huge contract on a multimillion dollar pay out.

    Another question concerning film rights.
    
    Does anyone know of any good websites that list which rights are available for purchase and which have already been optioned?
